Ship Manifest: SS Canopic - 28 April 1910 - Napoli to Boston

SS Canopic

On 16 April 1910 the SS Canopic left the port of Naples, arriving in Boston on 28 April 1910... with a handful of our Torre le Nocelle ancestors on board.  Below is the two page manifest and some of the highlights.  Names in blue link to their respective pedigree charts.

Line 23: Magno, Florindo, age 42, married, farm laborer, $30, he had previously been in Boston between 1904-1909.  His nearest Torre relative is his wife Emilia (Selvitella) and he is going to his nephew Amoroso Cefalo at 180 (Salem) St in Boston. (Although the actual street name isn't specified on this manifest, it does show up on a 7 April 1916 Cretic manifest in which Nicolangelo Cefalo headed to his brother Amoroso's home at the same address.)

Line 24: Sacco, Angiola, age 18, single, farm laborer, $40, no previous travel.  Her nearest relative in Montemiletto was her father Antonio, and she was going to her sister Maria at 35 Alpine St. in Franklin MA.

Line 25: Dello Iacono, Angelo Raffaele, age 34, married, farm laborer, $20, previously in the States between 1906-1908.  His nearest relative in Torre was his wife Giuseppa (Luongo) and he was going to his sister Rosaria at 21 N. Spruce St. Winchester MA.

Line 26: Vozella, Michele, age 24, single, carpenter, $30, no previous travel.  His nearest Torre relative was his father Angelo and he was going to meet his brother-in-law Lorenzo Pizzano at 5 Wiley Pl. in Wakefield MA.

Line 27:  Garofano, Gennaro, age 38, married, carpenter, $20, previously in the States between 1907 - 1909.  His nearest Torre relative was his wife Aurelia and he was going to his cousin Giuseppe Nardone at 25 Sheafe St. Boston MA. (I'm still trying to find a match for this guy in our Torre records, and suspect he may actually have been from Montemiletto.)

Line 28: Todesca, Antonio, age 16, single, carpenter, $28, no previous travel.  His nearest Torre relative was his father Carmine Todesca ad he was going to 6 Duke St. Winchester, MA, home of his brother Flaminio Todesca. Unfortunately there is a notation that says poor Antonio was deported on 4 May 1910 ... certainly couldn't have been a good experience for him at that tender age.

Line 29: Todesca, Nicola, age 17, single, carpenter, $20, no previous travel.  His nearest Torre relative was father Antonio and he was going to his cousin Domenico Vozella at 38 Lind St. Boston MA.

Line 30: Cirignano, Gennaro, age 38, married, $35, previously in the States between 1901-1906.  His nearest Torre relative was his wife Angela (Tafuri) and he was going to his brother-in-law Gaetano Penna at 4 Cleveland St. Boston MA.

While searching the web for images of the Canopic I came across this cool music program from 1912.  It's not likely any of our ancestors traveled first class, but perhaps a few notes of "Rigoletto" made their way down below deck?  Nah ... more than likely it would have been drowned out by the "Tarantella" that was coming up from steerage!
