"Bevilacqua, Michael Stephens - Proprietor, Salem Spa, 168 Salem St., Boston.  Born Boston, May 8, 1902.  Son of Emilio Bevilacqua and Florence Frongillo.  Graduated from High School of Commerce.  In business since 1925.  Formerly proprietario of Genoa Restaurant of Revere.  Married Pauline Mueller of Watertown, June 25, 1941.  One son, Charles Michael, born May 13, 1945.  Member: North End Indep. Ass'n.; K.C.; Holy Name Society; North End Clean Up Club; North Bennett Industrial School Alumni Assn.; ch'man of North End Youth Movement.  Sponsorer of every worthy cause.  Director of the Red Cross and Community funds in the Northend for number of years.  Active in political affairs.  Fond of all sports.  Lover of travel and music.  His father was born in Torre le Nocelle, Avellino, Italy.  Came to U.S. in 1896, settling in Boston as tavern keeper.  Had the following children:  Charles, tavern keeper, veteran U.S. Army; Michael S.; Concetta; Americo, tavern keeper; and Frank.  Res.:  172 Salem St., Boston."

Leading Americans of Italian Descent: Raffaele D Guarente - Undertaker





Guarente, Raffaele D. - Proprietor of R.D. Guarente and Sons, Undertakers.  Born Montemiletto, Avellino, Italy, Feb. 28, 1875.  Son of Francesco Guarente and Adelaide Magno.  Came to America in 1896 settling in Boston, where he graduated from the Mass. College of Embalming in 1912 and has since been engaged in the undertaking business in Boston.  Married Adelina Vitagliano of Boston in 1902.  Children: Frank, Ernesto, Eduardo - all of whom are funeral directors engaged with their father in business; Palmerino, chief petty officer U.S. Coast Guard; Adelaide and Carlotta.  Member and first president of San Gaetano Society, past grand officer of Sons of Italy and of Foresters of America.  Justice of Peace since 1912.  Business 415 Hanover St., Boston.  Res.: 29 Chestnut St., Arlington.

A terrific resource for those with ancestors who settled in the Boston area.  I'm not sure how accurate they are as I've noticed a few discrepancies in dates for our Torre ancestors ... but it's still a very interesting read.  Keep checking back as I'm scanning it for everyone from Avellino and will be posting links to the corresponding pages.
